No. 7 Lions Set For Five Games In Six Days

Joplin, Mo. - The seventh ranked Missouri Southern baseball program will have a busy week of games with five in six days beginning on Tuesday Mar. 28th at Rogers State.

The schedule for the week will see the Lions travel to Claremore, Okla. to play Rogers State on Mar. 28th at the Diamond Sports Complex in a midweek conference game with first pitch set for 2:00pm. Southern will then host Southwestern Oklahoma State in a makeup game on Mar. 29th from Warren Turner Field with first pitch set for 2:00pm. The Lions will then have a day off from games before playing Fort Hays State in Hays, Kan. in a three game weekend series beginning on Mar. 31st with all three games set for 1:00pm start times. 

Southern (23-7, 13-3 MIAA) as a team is hitting .312 with 9.2 runs, 10.4 hits with 1.9 home runs per game and as a pitching staff has a 5.11 ERA with opponents hitting .268 and 8.3 strikeouts per game. Individually Nate Mieszkowski is hitting .414 with 40 runs scored, 53 hits, eight doubles, nine home runs and 40 RBIs while slugging .703 with a .480 on-base percentage for a 1.183 OPS. Ethan Clark is hitting .383 with 18 runs scored, 31 hits, nine doubles and 23 RBIs. Matt Miller is hitting .358 with 34 runs scored, 38 hits, six doubles, 11 home runs and 37 RBIs while slugging .745 with a .470 on-base percentage for a 1.215 OPS. Garrett Rice is hitting .333 with 33 runs scored, 41 hits, six doubles, seven home runs and 26 RBIs. Will Doherty is hitting .324 with 28 runs scored, 36 hits, 10 doubles, four home runs and 26 RBIs. Henry Kusiak is hitting .317 with 32 runs scored, 38 hits, eight doubles, seven home runs and 26 RBIs.

On the mound Cole Woods is 6-1 with a 3.09 ERA from eight starts with 46.2 innings, nine walks with 51 strikeouts and opponents hitting .208. Owen Schneider is 1-1 with a 5.10 ERA from eight starts with 30.0 innings and 25 strikeouts while opponents hit .272. Cole Gayman (4-0, 4.13 ERA), Cale McCallister (3-0, 3.15 ERA), Steen Lane (2-0, 4.63 ERA) and Trent Harris (2-0, 8.35 ERA) have gotten starts this season as well. Laif Hultine leads the bullpen with 13 appearances and is 1-1 with three saves in 13.0 innings while striking out 11 and opponents hitting .229. Kyle Moore is 4-2 with a 3.67 ERA from 11 appearances with 34.1 innings, nine walks with 33 strikeouts and opponents hitting .236. 

Rogers State (19-10, 7-9 MIAA) as a team is hitting .281 with 6.4 runs, 8.9 hits with 1.9 stolen bases per game and as a pitching staff has a 6.01 ERA with opponents hitting .289 and 8.1 strikeouts per game. AJ Folds is hitting .405 with 23 runs scored, 32 hits, nine doubles and two triples while stealing 10 bases. Prescott Horn is hitting .393 with 30 runs scored, 44 hits, 12 doubles, two home runs and 36 RBIs while stealing 10 bases. Gavin Mestas is hitting .316 with 35 runs score, 36 hits, eight doubles, five home runs and 20 RBIs and eight steals. Carson Cheatwood is the top thief with 11 stolen bases this season while hitting .284 with 20 runs scored and 21 hits.

On the mound for the Hillcats Andres De Leon (2-4, 4.84 ERA), Rece Parker (4-1, 5.06 ERA) and Giancarlo Cortez (2-2, 6.69 ERA) have started seven games with Colton Anderson (2-1, 3.75 ERA), Nate Wohlgemuth (0-1, 9.00 ERA) and Tyler Hankins (2-1, 9.20 ERA) with at least two starts this season. Octavio Sanchez has featured 12 times out of the bullpen for a 3-0 record and 2.66 ERA and eight saves from 20.1 innings with 23 strikeouts and opponents hitting .227. Dean Grisham is 2-0 with a 3.60 ERA in 10 appearances with 10.0 innings for 11 strikeouts and opponents hitting .167.

Southwestern Oklahoma State (14-15, 8-10 GAC) as a team is hitting .314 with 8.7 runs, 10.2 hits with 2.3 doubles per game and as a pitching staff has a 7.03 ERA with opponents hitting .307 and 7.3 strikeouts per game. Caleb Clines is hitting .419 with 23 runs scored, 36 hits, seven doubles, three home runs and 24 RBIs, Alex Rice is hitting .394 with 39 runs scored, 43 hits, six doubles, two triples, two home runs and 20 RBIs. Emilio Trevino is hitting .329 with 30 runs scored, 27 hits, eight doubles, three home runs and 19 RBIs, Geoff Marlow is hitting .315 with 24 runs scored, 35 hits, 11 doubles, six home runs and 38 RBIs. Markus Coronado is hitting .304 with 22 runs scored, 28 hits, six doubles and 19 RBIs.

On the mound Jackson Phillips (4-2, 4.22 ERA), Ernesto Hidrogo (2-1, 5.14 ERA), Grant Ewy (0-4, 7.24 ERA), Matt Milner (3-3, 7.31 ERA), Philip Sanders (1-1, 7.78 ERA), Bryson Armstrong (1-0, 8.31 ERA) and Chris Goldston (1-3, 11.51 ERA) have started games this season for the Bulldogs. Ewy and Goldston have both recorded two saves, Phillips has pitched 42.2 innings and struck out 54.

Fort Hays State (13-19, 4-12 MIAA) as a team is hitting .300 with 7.2 runs, 9.5 hits and 1.8 doubles per game and as a pitching staff has a 7.62 ERA with opponents hitting .318 and 6.7 strikeouts per game. Isaiah Ural is hitting .358 with 33 runs scored, 39 hits, 11 doubles, four home runs and 26 RBIs, Trey DeGarmo is hitting .339 with 35 runs scored, 43 hits, nine doubles, two home runs and 17 RBIs. Zane Knox is hitting .333 with 16 runs scored, 31 hits, six doubles, five home runs and 21 RBIs, Ed Scott is hitting .331 with 30 runs scored, 40 hits, 10 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 18 RBIs. Emile Boies is hitting .319 with 27 runs scored, 36 hits, nine doubles, six home runs and 28 RBIs, Elliott Hermann is hitting .308 with 20 runs scored, 36 hits, six doubles, five home runs and 38 RBIs.

On the mound Daniel Bebee (2-2, 6.34 ERA), Jake Campbell (2-0, 4.44 ERA), Zach Berg (3-2, 5.10 ERA), Nate Pitts (1-1, 7.04 ERA), Nate Whitehill (1-2, 7.30 ERA), Andrew Hansen (1-2, 8.46 ERA), Luuk ter Beek (0-1, 9.18 ERA), Cade Flaherty (1-2, 9.58 ERA), Connor Holle (1-2, 11.30 ERA), Dustin Menard (0-1, 12.91 ERA) and Austin Puett (0-2, 18.00 ERA) have gotten starts this season. Flaherty has made a team-high 10 appearances, Bebee has pitched 32.2 innings and Hansen has 34 strikeouts for the team leaders in those categories.
