Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern baseball program picked up a 19-3 midweek run rule victory over Rogers State on Tuesday, Mar. 14th at Warren Turner Field.
The Lions (17-6, 8-2 MIAA) were led by
Drew Davis and
Nate Mieszkowski with grand slam home runs as Davis led the team with six RBIs.
Will Doherty and
Garrett Rice both had three hits as
Ethan Clark and
Chayton Beck both had two RBIs each.
Steen Lane picked up the win with 4.0 innings in his first career start while striking out three,
Jacob Davis and
Kyle Kaempf threw 1.0 innings of relief with
Eli Stoops and
Jeremiah Kennedy pitching in the seventh inning to close out the game.
Rogers State (15-7, 4-6 MIAA) would get on the board first in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead but that would all change in the bottom of the fourth inning. Southern would score 14 runs off nine hits and bat around the order twice with highlights being a bunt single by
Matt Miller to left field to begin the scoring and the Mieszkowski grand slam to make it 14-2 as the Hillcats used four pitchers in the half inning.Â
In the fifth Davis would hit a grand slam down the left field line and a
Henry Kusiak single through the left side scored
Ryan Doran to make it a 19-2 game. The Hillcats would get one run across in the sevneth for the 19-3 final score.
Up next for the Lions will be a road conference series against Washburn beginning on Friday Mar. 17th. First pitch from Falley Field on Friday is set for 5:00pm, Saturday at 2:00pm and Sunday at 1:00pm. This matchup will feature two of the top teams in the MIAA from the early conference slate with the Ichabods first going 10-1 in MIAA play and the Lions tied with Central Missouri in second going 8-2 in MIAA play so far.Â
