Cole Woods has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Central Region Pitcher of the week as announced by the organization today. This is the first time in his career to be named NCBWA Pitcher of the Week along with being named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Woods got the start in the season opener for the Lions and picked up the win after six dominant shutout innings with nine strikeouts against (RV) St. Cloud State while having a .83 WHIP and the Huskies hitting a lowly .150 against him. Woods also became the 14th Lion in program history to eclipse 150 career strikeouts with his performance against SCSU and is 24 strikeouts away from cracking the top-ten in program history.
Woods and the Lions will be back in action this week with trips to Arkadelphia, Ark. to play Henderson State tomorrow and traveling to Cleveland, Miss. to play Delta State on Feb. 10th and 11th.
