Lions Travel To Henderson State & Delta State

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern baseball program is set for a week on the road starting with Henderson State tomorrow and Delta State on Friday and Saturday.

Southern is set to play Henderson State tomorrow at 2:30pm in Arkadelphia, Ark. at Clyde Berry Field in the opening game of the HSU Invitational before traveling to Cleveland, Miss. to play Delta State in a three games series. The series against the Statesmen begins on Friday with a single game at 4:00pm before a double-header on Saturday at 1:00 and 4:00pm concludes the week at Ferriss Field.

The Lions (4-0) as a team are hitting .331 with 10.5 hits and 9.3 runs per game and as a pitching staff has a 3.94 ERA with 8.0 strikeouts per game and opponents hitting .243. Leading the pitching staff is the reigning MIAA and NCBWA Central Region Pitcher of the Week, Cole Woods with a 1-0 record and six shutout innings of work while recording nine strikeouts and opponents hitting .150 against him. Cale McCallister and Owen Schneider got starts and picked up wins with McCallister throwing five shutout innings last time out and Schneider coming away with five strikeouts in six innings. Laif Hultine and Jacob Davis have appeared in two games out of the bullpen with Hultine picking up a win and Davis recording a save. Matt Miller leads the team with a .545 batting average and 1.182 slugging percentage with two home runs, five RBIs and a .615 on base percentage. Garrett Rice is hitting .500 with seven hits, a home runs, four RBIs, slugging .786 and has a team-high .632 on base percentage. Tyler Ferguson leads the team with seven RBIs and is hitting .467 with seven hits and was one of the five Lions to hit a home run last weekend.

Henderson State (2-1) as a team is hitting .303 with 11.0 hits and 5.3 runs per game and as a pitching staff has a 4.00 ERA with 8.7 strikeouts per game and opponents hitting .277. Ryan Galvan leads the pitching staff with a 1.80 ERA and five innings of work while opponents are hitting .250 against him. Reese Weaks and Andrew Howard are the other starters so far for the Reddies with Weaks having a 4.50 ERA in four innings with five strikeouts. Henry Coppens and Mitchell Szczygiel picked up a win each coming out of the bullpen as Coppens pitched two innings and Szcygiel had one inning of work. Luke Rice leads the team with a .583 batting average, seven hits, three doubles, .833 slugging percentage and .583 on base percentage. Kaden Argenbright has a team-high four RBIs and Dillon Thomas has the lone home run of the season and is hitting .200.

Delta State (1-2) as a team is hitting .196 with 6.3 hits and 3.7 runs per game and as a pitching staff has a 4.18 ERA with 13.0 strikeouts per game and opponents hitting .269. Hammer Franks leads the team with five innings worked and seven strikeouts while opponents are hitting .125. Drake Fontenot and Harrison Haley are the other two starters so far as Fontenot pitched 3.2 innings and struck out four while Haley made it 1.2 innings and allowed five hits, five runs all earned and opponents hit .556. Kameron Koch leads the bullpen with four innings of work and seven strikeouts with opponents hitting .200 against him. Duke Jordan picked up the win with 2.1 innings of work and four strikeouts as opponents hit .125. Brett Burrell leads the team with a .444 batting average, four hits, three RBIs, .667 slugging percentage and .615 on base percentage. Kirkland Trahan and Brendan McCauley are both hitting .333 and have one RBI each to round out the normal starters hitting above .300.
