Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern baseball program picked up a 12-2 run rule win over Southwest Baptist at Warren Turner Field today.
The Lions (2-0) were led by
Owen Schneider with five strikeouts in six innings to notch his first career win with
Laif Hultine pitching the final innings and coming away with three strikeouts.
Chayton Beck hit his first home run of the season with a three run shot while going 2-for-4,
Tyler Ferguson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs,
Garrett Rice had a unique game while being hit three times and eventually scoring three runs while going 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Southwest Baptist (0-3) had Tremayne Mungin and Christian Carratala score while Jake Fuller pitched five innings in a losing effort.
Treghan Parker got the scoring started in the first inning thanks to a triple down the right field line to score two and Ferguson with a single up the middle scored Parker. In the second inning the Bearcats scored twice but Rice scored after a fielding error to make it 4-2.
Ryan Doran scored off a wild pitch in the third while a Ferguson single through the left side scored Rice and a Doran single through the right side scored
Henry Kusiak. In the sixth inning
Case Tucker picked up an RBI before a three run homer by Beck and a Rice single to score
Nate Mieszkowski made it 12-2.
Up next for the Lions will be (RV) St. Cloud State and Southwest Baptist tomorrow. First pitch from Warren Turner Field against the Huskies is set for 11:00am followed by the Bearcats at 2:00pm.
