Pittsburg, Kan. - The Missouri Southern baseball program began MIAA play on Friday with a rivalry game against Pittsburg State, falling 8-3 at Al Ortolani Field.
The two teams will be back in action tomorrow with first pitch set for 2:00pm and end the three game series on Sunday at 12:00pm.
For the Lions (9-5, 0-1 MIAA)
Will Doherty hit his second home run of the season as
Nate Mieszkowski and
Henry Kusiak collected two hits each.
Cole Woods pitched 5.2 innings and collected five strikeouts.
In the second inning Doherty hit a solo home run to begin the scoring in the game and in the third inning a
Matt Miller sacrifice fly scored
Garrett Rice for an early 2-0 lead by the Lions. PSU would get two runs across in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead that eventually rose to 8-2. Southern would mount a rally in the ninth as a Mieszkowski RBI single up the middle scored
Ryan Doran and load the bases but couldn't get another run across for an 8-3 final.
