Nate Mieszkowski has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Central Region Player of the Week as announced by the organization today. This is the first time in his career to be named NCBWA Player of the Week along with being named the MIAA Hitter of the Week on Monday.
Over the course of four games, Mieszkowski posted a .722 batting average, recorded 13 hits, scored 10 runs, had 10 RBI, four home runs, and two doubles for 27 total bases. The sophomore also slugged for 1.500 and posted an on-base percentage of .700 for a 2.200 OPS. Following this past weekend, Mieszkowski had hit a home run in four straight games, had three or more hits and scored in five straight games as well. Coming into last week, he was hitting just .290 and he is now at .444 which currently ranks sixth in the MIAA. Among MIAA ranks he tied for first in at bats, second in hits, tied for third in doubles, tied for fifth in runs scored, tied for sixth in home runs, ninth in slugging percentage and OPS, tenth for RBIs and defensively is fourth in assists and has helped turn a conference leading nine double plays.
Mieszkowski and the Lions will be back in action this weekend to begin MIAA play at Pittsburg State in a three game series. Southern will be at Al Ortolani Field from Friday - Sunday as first pitch is set for 3:00pm on Friday, 2:00pm on Saturday and 12:00pm for Sunday.
