Nate Mieszkowski was named the MIAA Hitter of the Week as announced by the league office today.
Over the course of four games, Mieszkowski posted a .722 batting average, recorded 13 hits, scored 10 runs, had 10 RBI, four home runs, and two doubles for 27 total bases. The sophomore also slugged for 1.500 and posted an on-base percentage of .700 for a 2.200 OPS. Following this weekend, Mieszkowski has hit a home run in four straight games, had three or more hits and scored in five straight games as well. Coming into the week, he was hitting just .290 and he is now at .449 which currently ranks sixth in the MIAA. Among MIAA ranks he is also leading the conference in hits, tied for second in at bats, tied for third in home runs, fifth for runs scored, sixth for batting average, eighth for slugging percentage and OPS while defensively being a part of the Lion trio that is leading the MIAA in double plays turned with nine.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow against Drury with first pitch from Warren Turner Field set for 2:00pm in the non-conference midweek matchup. Following the game against the Panthers, Southern will jump right into MIAA play with a trip to play rival Pittsburg State in a three day series. Games at Ol Ortolani Field are set for a 3:00pm start on Friday, 2:00pm on Saturday and at 12:00pm on Sunday to finish the weekend.
