Women's Basketball Set to Host Newman

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Women's basketball team (4-4, 1-2 MIAA) is set to host the Jets of Newman University (1-8, 0-3 MIAA) for a conference matchup in Joplin, Missouri on Saturday, December 9, at 1:30 PM coming off a 86-65 victory over Central Oklahoma on Thursday, December 7.

Scouting the Lions
The Lions continue conference play against the Jets of Newman University after previously defeating Central Oklahoma 86-65 in the Lions first home game of the season. Prior to UCO, the Lions began conference play on the road, losing both conference games against Missouri Western, 73-55, and Northwest Missouri, 69-59. 

Kaitlin Hunnicutt led the Lions in the win over Central Oklahoma with a career-high 25 points (9-13 FG, 4-5 FT) and five rebounds. Ryan Franklin posted her third double-double of the season with 21 points (8-12 FG, 5-10 FT) and 13 rebounds. The Lions are 3-0 when Franklin has a double-double.

Brandi Hudson leads the Lions in points per game with 12.6 ppg. Three other Lions average double-digit points per game as well, Kryslyn Jones (11.6), Kaitlin Hunnicutt (11.1) and Ryan Franklin (11.1). Franklin leads the rebounding category with 7.8 rpg.

Scouting the Jets
The Jets of Newman University began conference play after going 1-5 in out-of-conference matches with their only win being a 98-59 blowout victory over Manhattan Christian. The Jets opened conference play at home where they lost to Lincoln, 70-67, and #3 Central Missouri, 87-51. The Jets most recently traveled to Pittsburg, Kansas where they lost to Pittsburg State in a blowout victory for the Gorillas, 92-43. 

Leading the scoring for Newman is Carissa Beck, a 5-7 senior guard. Through nine games, Beck is averaging 9.8 points per game on 40.3% shooting from the field and 42.5% shooting from beyond the arch. She also averages 1.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

The next leading scorer for the Jets is Amiya Josey, who averages 9.6 points per game. The rebounding category is led by Delainey Wylie, averaging 6.1 per game.
