Lions Continue Conference Play At #23 Missouri Western

St. Joseph, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Women's basketball team (3-3, 0-1 MIAA) is set to continue MIAA conference play against the Griffons of Missouri Western (4-2, 0-1 MIAA) in St. Joseph, Missouri on Saturday, December 2, at 3:30 PM after a 69-59 loss to Northwest Missouri on Thursday, November 30.

Scouting the Lions
The Lions will continue MIAA conference play against Missouri Western after previously losing to Northwest Missouri in the MIAA conference opener, 69-59. Prior to conference play, the Lions competed in the Rambelle Thanksgiving Classic in San Angelo, Texas, going 1-1 with a loss to Angelo State, 80-61, and then getting a blow out victory over Midwestern State, 90-49.

Brandi Hudson led the Lions in the loss to Northwest Missouri with a season-high 24 points (9-15 FG, 6-8 FT) and a team-leading seven rebounds. Mia Topping posted 14 points (4-13 FG, 4-6 FT), four rebounds and three assists. Maggie Sockey came off the bench and added 12 points (3-4 FG, 6-8 FT) and two steals

With the 24 points against NWMSU, Brandi Hudson now leads the Lions in scoring this season with 13.3 ppg. Ryan Franklin leads the rebounding category with 7.8 rpg.

Scouting the Griffons
The number 23 ranked (via WBCA poll) Griffons of Missouri Western had a hot start to the season, winning four straight over Winona State (90-63), Concordia-St. Paul (84-71), St. Mary (KS) (103-65) and St. Mary's (TX) (52-47). The Griffons then faced their first loss of the season to Texas A&M-Kingsville, 62-48. MWSU opened their MIAA conference season at home against Pittsburg State, which resulted in a second straight loss for the Griffons after losing 65-56.

Leading the scoring for Missouri Western is Connie Clarke, a 5-10 senior forward. Through six games, Clarke is averaging 11.7 points per game on 46.6% shooting from the field. She also averages 1.5 assists and 2.0 steals.

One other Griffon averages 10+ points per game, Tiani Ellison, who averages 10.6 points per game. The rebounding category is also led by Connie Clarke, averaging 7.8 per game.
