San Angelo, Texas - The Missouri Southern Women's Basketball team traveled to San Angelo, Texas to take part in the Rambelle Thanksgiving Classic. The Lions dropped the first of two games at the Classic to Angelo State, 80-61. The Lions advance to 2-2 (0-0 MIAA) on the season.
Both teams came out firing in the first quarter, resulting in three ties and four lead changes before the Rambelles took a 17-14 lead within the last minute.
Kaitlin Hunnicutt led the Lions in the first, scoring five points (2-4 FG).
The Rambelles took control of the second quarter early, taking a 29-19 lead with 5:26 remaining in the half, before the Lions went on a 13-2 run and took a 32-31 lead with 1:23 remaining. The Rambelles were able to score a layup before the end of the half and took a 33-32 lead over the Lions going into the half.
Mia Topping was a big part in the run that kept the game close for the Lions, scoring 10 points (4-8 FG) in the half.
The Rambelles began the third quarter with a 11-2 run, which the Lions could not overcome, ending the third in a 62-44 lead for Angelo State.Â
Angelo State continued to dominate in the fourth quarter, going on a 10-0 run to begin the final quarter, and ultimately took the victory over the Lions, 80-61.
Three Lions finished in double-digits on the day.
Mia Topping led the Lions with 12 points (4-13 FG), four assists and two rebounds.
Maggie Sockey finished with 11 points (3-6 FG, 5-5 FT) and four rebounds.
Brandi Hudson totaled 10 points (3-7 FG, 4-4 FT), two rebounds and three steals.
The MSSU Women's Basketball team will compete in their final game of the Rambelle Thanksgiving Classic Saturday, November 25, at 3:00 PM against Midwestern State at the Junell Center.
