Scouting the Lions
The Lions began the season at the MIAA/GAC crossover at White Auditorium, located in Emporia, Kansas, where they defeated GAC's Harding, 76-72, and Henderson State, 85-68. This is the second all-time meeting with Southern Nazarene for the Lions. Last meeting was in 1991 that resulted in a 80-71 loss for the Lions.
Ryan Franklin posted a double-double in both games for the Lions this season, averaging 17.5 points 13.0 rebounds.
Kryslyn Jones heads into Wednesday's contest seven points shy of 700 total points over her collegiate career.
In total, Southern returned two starters and six total squad members from the 2022-23 season.
Scouting the Crimson Storm
The Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm enter Wednesday's competition ranked number 13 in the Division II Media Poll with a perfect 4-0 record on the 2023-24 season. They began the year with a tough match up against the WBCA number two ranked Minnesota State University - Mankato Mavericks, but overcame the rankings and defeated the Mavericks, 73-56. The Crimson Storm went on to defeat Minot State the following day in a 18 point, 60-42, victory. Southern Nazarene continued to dominate the competition with a 71-55 win over Arkansas Fort Smith. The Crimson Storm had their first taste of MIAA competition in their most previous match against Central Oklahoma, where the Storm won in usual fashion with a 69-50 victory.
Leading the scoring for SNU is Lauryn Reither, a 5-7 graduate guard. Through four games, Reither is averaging 18.5 points per game on 63.6% shooting from the field, and 47.4% from beyond the arc. She also has eight assists and 12 steals.
Two other Crimson Storm are averaging 10+ points per game, Emily Monaghan (13.0), and Abbie Jiles (11.5). The rebounding category is led by Hannah Giddey, sister of Oklahoma City Thunder's Josh Giddey, averaging 10.5 per game.
