Lions Roar To 84-45 Win

Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern women's basketball program picked up a decisive 84-45 victory over Lincoln tonight inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
 
For the Lions (17-4, 9-4 MIAA) it was the fourth game this season where all 12 players that suited up scored as Lacy Stokes led the way with 15 points, four assists and four rebounds. Madi Stokes had 14 points and nine rebounds with four blocks, off the bench Hailey Grant and Amaya Johns chipped in with 11 points each as Grant had seven rebounds to lead the bench unit.
 
Lincoln (5-14, 3-10 MIAA) was led by Mercy Gonzalez and Le'Yanna McGinnis with each scoring nine points as McGinnis grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. AJ Bradley led the bench unit with six points and along with Miriam Bazlewicz grabbed three rebounds.
 
As a team the Lions held the advantage over the Blue Tigers in field goal percentage 51.9-28.8, three pointers made 10-3, three point percentage 40.0-25.0, free throws made 18-8, free throw percentage 85.7-80.0, rebounds 40-29, defensive rebounds 29-15, assists 18-9, steals 8-5, blocks 6-3, bench points 41-15, fast break points 7-2, points off turnovers 27-9, points in the paint 28-18 and second chance points 9-8 while holding a lead for 38:49 of the game and had no ties.
 
The first ten points of the game were scored by the Lions and at the media timeout of the quarter it was 15-4 thanks to a Johns jumper with Kryslyn Jones picking up her second assist in the early with 5:36 remaining. Over the last minute and a half the Lions ended the first quarter on a 5-2 run to make it a ten point game, 23-13 going into the second quarter.
 
Just like in the first quarter the Lions got out to a quick start to a quarter with a 12-2 run capped of by a Madi Stokes layup with 4:49 left for a 20 point lead, 35-15. The rest of the quarter would see Cameron Call, Mira Khan along with Lacy and Maid Stokes scoring for the Lions and a half court buzzer beater by the Blue Tigers made it 43-24 heading into the half.
 
In the third quarter an 18-4 run by Southern pushed the lead up to 31 at 63-32 with 1:27 remaining thanks to a Grant free throw as the team had scored 14 unanswered points. To close out the quarter Call and Grant would sink three's on back-to-back possessions to hand the Lions a 69-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
 
Lincoln would get a 7-2 run off in the fourth quarter but Southern responded with a 7-0 run to make it 78-42 after an Anjelina Humphreys layup with Mia Topping picking up her second assist of the game with 3:18 remaining. The Lions would end the game with Khan and Peyton Mosley drilling three's for a 84-45 final.
 
Up next for the Lions will be Newman on Thursday at 5:30pm inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
 
Career Update
Lacy Stokes – With 950 points passed LaDonna Wilson (83-87) and Marie Scott (95-97) for 18th in program history. Lacy also moved into a tie with Tommie Horton (91-95) for fourth in steals with 161 and moved past Rolanda Glade (91-93) tonight.
 
Layen Skiels – With 942 points moved past LaDonna Wilson (83-87) for 20th in program history.
