Women's Basketball Ready For Busy Week At Home

Joplin, Mo. - The Missouri Southern women's basketball program is set to host Lincoln, Newman and Central Oklahoma this week. To begin the week the Lions will play the Blue Tigers tomorrow before returning to the usual Thursday/Saturday schedule with Newman on Thursday and Central Oklahoma on Saturday.

The Blue Tigers Scout
This season Lincoln is 5-13, 3-9 MIAA and is on a two game losing steak and for the season is 1-7 on the road. Le'Yanna McGinnis is the leading scorer and rebounder for the Blue Tigers at 13.8 and 6.3 per game while shooting 52.7 percent from the field going 97-of-184 and defensively has swatted away 20 shots. Saniya Simmons is starting as a freshman and leading the team with 61 assists and 39 steals while adding 5.4 points and 2.3 rebounds a game. Kelsey Mitchell is averaging 8.6 points and 2.3 rebounds a game and is the sharp shooter on the team going 38-of-98 from three for 38.8 percent. Ashlyn Alloway is averaging 7.4 points and 4.1 rebounds and has 26 steals and is shooting 45.0 percent from the field. AJ Bradley got the start in the last game to round out the starting five and is averaging 5.8 points and 2.1 rebounds a game while adding 20 assists and 18 steals.

Jets Report
This season Newman is 6-11, 3-9 MIAA and is on a three game losing streak and for the season is 2-6 on the road. Brtney Ho is the leading scorer and rebounder for the Jets at 17.8 and 7.4 per game while shooting 48.5 percent from the field going 128-of-264. Carissa Beck is the sharp shooter from three going 37-of-76 for 48.7 percent from three and is averaging 8.7 points and 2.7 rebounds a game. Maddie Spagnola has a team-high 62 assists to go with 33 steals and averages 7.5 points and 3.6 rebounds a game. Lauryn Bubbert is averaging 7.4 points and 3.1 rebounds a game while having 36 assists and 20 steals. Torri Vang got the start in the last game to round out the starting five and is averaging 1.2 points and 2.2 rebounds a game while providing 18 assists and nabbing nine steals.

Preview Of The Bronchos
This season Central Oklahoma is 7-10, 4-9 MIAA and won their last game out which was against Newman and for the season is 2-4 on the road. Alayzha Knapp is the leading scorer for the Bronchos at 13.8 points a game while addind 4.8 rebounds and has a team-high 20 blocks. Allyah Llanusa is the leading rebounder at 6.8 per game while adding 9.9 points a game and 30 steals this season. Karly Wadsworth is the sharp shooter for the team going 38-of-122 from three for 31.1 percent while averaging 13.4 points and 1.9 rebounds a game. Brooke Rayner is the leading assist provider with 68 so far this season and has 34 steals while averaging 10.6 points and 4.1 rebounds a game. Aspen Williston and Lexi Foreman got the start in their last game with Williston averaging 8.8 points and 4.5 rebounds a game while having 31 blocks and for Foreman she is averaging 3.3 points and 2.8 rebounds a game.

Small Town Missouri
This season the Lions will have four members of the team from small towns in Missouri on the roster with Layne Skiles from Purdy, Madi Stokes from Cassville along with Lacy Stokes and Cameron Call hailing from Mount Vernon. Combined the three towns have a population of 8,728 which accounts for 16.8 percent of the population of Joplin (51,846). The towns are connected by a 50 minute drive going from Cassville-to-Purdy-to-Mount Vernon and are each under an hour and a half drive from Joplin.

3's Are Timeless
658 Straight games have been played by the Lions where at least one three was made, the streak began back in the 1999-00 season after the first weekend of the season where the Lions went 0-7 from deep on Nov. 20th, 1999 in Tahlequah, Okla against Southern Arkansas losing 68-53. During the streak the Lions have made one three in 25 games, two in 53 games, three in 68 games, four in 81 games, five in 89 games, six in 94 games, seven in 65 games, eight in 65 games, nine in 50 games, 10 in 35 games, 11 in 10 games, 12 in 12 games, 13 in eight games and 14 in three games.

Triple Digits Pt. 3
The Lions put up triple digits for the third time under Ronnie Ressel this time besting Central Christian College (Kan.) 100-32 on Nov. 26, 2022. The previous times the Lions went over 100 points during Ressel's tenure was against Lincoln (Dec. 18, 2021) 103-58 and Graceland (Dec. 30, 2017) 100-44 with every game occurring inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. The win over Lincoln was also the most points scored by the Lions inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center since a 104-28 win over Ozark Christian on Dec. 6, 2005.
