Lions Pick Up Three Event Wins, Barton Breaks Weight Throw Record Again

Pittsburg, Kan. – The Missouri Southern track and field programs had a successful Friday with the programs competing at the Rumble in the Jungle and UCM Invitational.

Overall, nine provisional marks and three event wins happened today with Peyton Barton beating his own school record in the men's weight throw with a mark of 21.96m to win the weight throw and Jordan Garr taking the win in the shot put at 17.68m (58-0.00) in Warrensburg. Chardae Overstreet won the women's 400-meter dash with an NCAA Provisional time of 56.44 in Pittsburg.

Also competing in the weight throw for the men were Connor Boyd (17.94m), Jordan Garr (16.99m) and Cedric Pearson (16.11m) with the trio finishing third, fourth and sixth in the event. In the shot put Pearson would also finish fourth with a mark of 16.71. On the women's side Mallory Huber finished second in the weight throw with an NCAA Provisional mark of 17.56m.

In the men's high jump, Brendan Jewell finished second with an NCAA Provisional mark of 2.06m (06-09.00) and Luke Brumit finished third with a mark of 1.95m. Taris Jackson finished second in the triple jump with an NCAA Provisional mark of 14.92m and Peyton McBride finished fourth with a jump of 13.98m. Jennifer Okeke (11.50m) and Lillian Hart (10.62m) finished second and fourth in the women's triple jump.

Holly Robinson finished second in the women's pole vault with an NCAA Provisional mark of 3.77m while Abby Hobbs, Mackenzie Moring and Emma Hobbs finished fourth, sixth and tenth in the event. Bryan Candrl (4.20m) finished eighth in the men's pole vault.

Kiara Smith finished second in the women's 60m hurdles with an NCAA Provisional time of 8.67 and Cornesia Calhoun-White finished seventh in a time of 9.21. In the men's 60-meter hurdles Malachi Pipkin finished fifth at 8.39 and in the 60-meter dash Pipkin was eighth at 7.01.

In other action, Jon Watts (6.96m), Taris Jackson (6.80m) and Peyton McBride (6.61m) finished fourth, seventh and ninth in the men's long jump. For the women Rylee Darnell (1.55m), Lilian Hart (1.50m) and Jazmine Knight (1.50m) were sixth, seventh and ninth in the event.

In the women's mile run, Lilah Genel (5:02.52), Kelie Henderson (5:04.20) and Kayanna Gaines (5:06.43) finished second, third and fourth in the event, while Kelton Sorrell finished third in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.98. Overstreet (25.18) and Wallace (26.23) ran in the 200 meter dash and finished second and ninth in the event.

Jenari Lopez finished tenth in the women's 3000-meter run with a time of 10:34.02 while the men's 4x400 meter relay team of Simon Seibert, Sorrell, Elliot Rule, and Watts finished third with a time of 3:20.88.

Up next for the programs will be the Wendy's Pittsburg Invite on Saturday Jan. 28th.
