Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern soccer program will be at home this week to play Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western for week four.
This week Southern will play Northwest Missouri on Friday at 6:00pm to end non-conference play and then will open MIAA play against Missouri Western on Sunday at 2:00pm, both games are set to be played at Hal Bodon Field.
The Lions (0-5) played #19 Central Missouri and Missouri Western on the road this past week and will be looking to get some revenge against the Griffons at home.
Kylie Stonestreet netted the first two goals of her career against the Jennies and leads the team in that category while having six shots, three being on goal.
Ella Durocher has scored this season in the season opener to round out the goal scorers so far this year.
Maya Greenquist and
Ashley Koepp have provided one assist each this season with Koepp leading the team with seven shots and Grenquist being tied with
Aisley Stevens and Stonestreet for the team lead with three shots on goal.
Riley Laver has appeared in four games for the Lions in goal and has registered 25 saves while
Lilly Doneghue got the start against the Griffons and finished with seven saves on the road.
Northwest Missouri (3-1-2) is coming off their first loss of the season against #19 Central Missouri last week and tied Missouri Western in St. Joseph on Friday. Kaylie Rock leads the team with two goals and two assisted while having 10 shots, seven being shots on goal and a game winning goal. Kaitlyn Case and Hannah Stirling both have two goals as well with Stirling having 12 shots this season and Case's seven shots have all been on goal. Teagan Blackburn leads the team with 14 shots and has seven shots on goal with a goal and assist so far this season. Lily Ellis has played in five games with one goal allowed for a 0.20 GAA with 11 saves for a .917 save percentage going 2-1-2 with four shutouts, Grace Goetsch has played in one game and allowed one goal while saving two shot and picked up the win.
Missouri Western (2-2-2) started last week with a tie against Northwest Missouri before beating the Lions at home. Keeley Kroonenberg was named MIAA Goalkeeper of the week for the second consecutive week and this season has appeared in six games with four goals allowed for a 0.67 GAA with 33 saves for a .892 save percentage while having four shutouts with a 2-2-2 record.
Elisabeth Pujado leads the team with two goals while having eight shots, seven being shots on goal. Kalli Campbell and Jaden Skinner have scored a goal each with Campbell leading the team with 28 shots and 12 shots on goal. Elizabeth Musilek was named the MIAA Defender of the Week as the sophomore from Omaha didn't come off the field and helped the Griffons to back-to-back shutouts last week.
After this week the Lions will host Newman and current #10 Central Oklahoma in MIAA play next week. The Jets will be coming to town on Friday on September 23
rd at 6:00pm and UCO will be in Joplin again this season on Sunday September 25
th at 2:00pm with both games scheduled to be played at Hal Bodon Field.
