Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern baseball program has earned the American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award, the organization announced today.
Nearly 700 member college and high school programs from across the country were awarded the 2021-22 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, which is presented by Sports Attack. Teams from every level of college and high school baseball were honored with this year's award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for the entire 2021-22 academic year.
Over 250 high school programs and more than 420 collegiate programs were recognized with this year's award. To be honored, teams have had to post at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA within the 2021-22 academic year.
The Lions posted a 3.058 team cumulative GPA this year. Southern had 18 players with a 3.00 or higher cumulative GPA after the spring semester. The Lions were one of just five MIAA programs to win the honor, joining Fort Hays State, Rogers State, Central Missouri and Washburn.
