MIAA Announces Academic Awards For Freshmen And Newcomers

Kansas City, Mo. – The MIAA today announced its academic awards for newcomers and freshmen today and the Lions had 52 student-athletes earn academic honors.
 
All told, a total of 943 student-athletes in the MIAA were named to the Academic Honor Roll, with 52 being named a Scholar-Athlete and 99 earning the Academic Excellence Award.
 
To be recognized on the Academic Honor Roll, one must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.00 or above at the certifying member institution. The individual must also have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.
 
A scholar-athlete must meet the above requirements with a 3.50 GPA, as well as earning All-MIAA status within the year. The Academic Excellence Award goes to those that maintain a cumulative 4.00 GPA.
 
Five newcomers and freshmen earned Scholar-Athlete honors this year for the Lions. Drew Davis and Ryan Doran from Baseball, Brendan Jewell from men's track and field, Lacy Stokes from women's basketball and Sofia Fatino from women's soccer earned honors.
 
In addition to the Scholar-Athletes, the Green and Gold had a total of seven individuals earn the prestigious Academic Excellence Award. Dylan Bagley and Alexander Page from men's golf, Joshua Workman from men's track and field, Lily Allman from women's golf, Alex Pascua and Elisabeth Pujado from women's soccer, as well as Kayanna Gaines from women's track and field all earned the honor.
