Davis Homers Twice, Series Tied 1-1

Pittsburg, Kan. – The Missouri Southern baseball team got out to a 4-0 start, but Pittsburg State scored eight unanswered runs and evened up the MIAA Quarterfinal Series between the two teams taking game two 8-4 today at Al Ortolani Field.
 
Southern (29-22), got a 3-for-4 day at the plate from Drew Davis as he hit a pair of home runs, as well as a double to drive in three and score twice. Henry Kusiak had a homer, as well, while Tommy Stevenson had a double and Chayton Beck added a triple. Ryan Doran and Kusiak scored a run each.
 
Cole Woods started and went four innings, allowing two runs and striking out four. Jacob Davis, Scott Duensing, Cole Gayman, Cale McCallister and Chase Beiter threw in relief.
 
The Lions got the scoring started in the first when Kusiak homered to left, his second long ball of the series. Two more runs came in in the second after Doran singled to lead off the inning and Davis hit his first home run, a monster shot to left.
 
Davis homered again in the fourth to put the Lions up 4-0.
 
Pitt (30-19) answered with two in the fourth and fifth innings to tie it at four after five. The Gorillas broke the game open with four runs in the seventh which proved to be the difference.
 
The two teams will play a winner-take-all finale tomorrow afternoon with first pitch set to begin at 1 pm. The winner will earn a spot next weekend in the MIAA Tournament held in Edmond, Okla.
