Pittsburg, Kan. – The Missouri Southern softball program traveled to rival Pittsburg State and came away with a dominant two game sweep over the Gorillas 7-4 and 10-0 inside the Pittsburg State Softball Complex today.
The Lions (22-15, 10-4 MIAA) got three runs in the first inning of game one thanks to
Leighton Withers seventh home run of the season which ties her for the seventh most in a single-season in school history. The Gorillas (21-18, 3-11 MIAA) picked up two runs in the second making it 3-2 heading to the third inning.
Southern would add four in the third as Withers doubled down the left field line to score

Ashlynn Williams hit the second three run home run of the game for the Lions and her fourth home run of the season to cause a pitching change up 7-2. Pitt added solo home runs in the sixth and seventh as the Lions sealed the 7-4 game one win.
Withers led the team with four RBIs while going 2-for-4 and Williams picked up three RBIs as well. Vargas,
Josie Tofpi and Withers all finished with two runs scored and
Kara Amos picked up her 10th win of the season going the distance in the circle.
Game two began much like the first as the Lions got out to an early lead this time scoring four in the first inning.

Leighton Withers and Williams.
The Lions got three runs in the third inning as back-to-back doubles by
Kara Amos and Wade scored two and
Adrianna Young hit a single to left field allowing
Abby DeSanto to score as well. The icing on the cake was delivered in the fifth as Vargas hit her second home run of the season that scored Grace Parrot and Wade and
Bailey Lacy shut out the Gorillas one last time to secure the 10-0 run rule victory that secured the second straight sweep over the Gorillas and the fifth straight win over Pitt.
Vargas and Wade finished with three RBIs each in game two and Amos also added two RBIs.
Ashlynn Williams and Vargas lead the team with two runs scored in the game and
Bailey Lacy threw a five inning one hitter striking out four Gorillas in her 10th win of the season.
Next up for the Lions is Washburn on Friday April 15th and Emporia State on Saturday April 16th. Game times against the Ichabods are at 4:00 and 6:00pm approximately from Gahnstrom Field and against the Hornets game times are 1:00 and 3:00pm approximately from Trusler Sports Complex.
