Lions Lose Against Washburn

Topeka, Kan. – The Missouri Southern softball program fell to Washburn on the road this evening 5-4 and 11-3 inside Gahnstrom Field.

The Lions (22-17, 10-6 MIAA) and Ichabods (34-11, 16-2 MIAA) engaged in a pitcher's duel until the fifth inning. In the fifth the Lions got two runs across as Abby DeSanto got on base with a double before reaching third base off a Kara Amos single and later stole second in the next at bat. Izzy Medrano ran for Amos and would score after stealing second and touched home plate after a Sidnie Hurst pinch hit double.

Southern kept Washburn from getting a runner into scoring position in the fifth and sixth innings, falling down in order in the sixth. The Lions scored two runs in the top half of the seventh as a Grace Parrott double scored Amos and Young hit a sacrifice fly scoring Kristen Wade. Washburn scored five in the seventh to snatch the game away.
