Lions Ground Griffons, 10-3

Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern baseball team scored eight runs over the first two innings and the Lions took out Missouri Western 10-3 today in game one of the series at Warren Turner Field.
 
Southern (27-20, 16-15 MIAA) got a pair of homers from Treghan Parker and Henry Kusiak while Ryan Doran drove in three. Doran was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Kusiak went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Parker had a pair of RBIs and a run scored, while Matt Miller was 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs and two walks. Nate Mieszkowski had a pair of hits and a run, while Jordan Fitzpatrick, Chayton Beck and Case Tucker scored a run each.
 
Logan VanWey started and went six innings to move to 6-3 on the season, while striking out ten batters in the process. Jacob Davis threw two and two thirds in relief, while Alex Baker got the final out.
 
Western (12-31, 8-23 MIAA) got a pair of hits each from Jared Munk and Alex Crouch.
 
The Griffons got two runs in the top of the first, but the Lions answered with six of their own in the bottom half. Doran started the scoring with a bases-clearing double to score Kusiak, Miller and Mieszkowski to make the score 3-2. Fitzpatrick then singled home Doran, while Parker concluded the rally in the first with a two-run bomb to right to give the Lions a 6-2 lead after one.
 
Kuskiak added his homer to right-center, scoring Miller in the second to make it 8-2, before the Griffons added another run in the third.
 
Both teams were scoreless until the seventh when Miller doubled home Tucker and Beck for the final tallies.
 
The two teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is slated for 1 pm. The Lions will honor their seven seniors as part of Senior Day prior to the start of the game.
