Baseball Set To Host Fort Hays State This Weekend

Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team will be back in action this weekend as the Lions play host to Fort Hays State on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Warren Turner Field.

Game times will be 5 pm Friday and 1 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The weekend will mark the 50th Anniversary Celebration for the baseball program at MSSU and there will be a recognition of former players on Saturday prior to the game. On Friday night, the Lions will honor former pitcher Zach Parish with his NCAA Division II Pitcher of the Year plaque prior to the game.

Southern (19-12, 10-7 MIAA) is coming off a rout of Rogers State in a mid-week MIAA game on Tuesday where the Lions won 25-2. Southern scored 13 runs in the fourth inning where the Lions sent 18 batters to the plate. Individually, Miller and Tommy Stevenson rank eighth nationally and second in the MIAA in home runs with 12. Stevenson ranks seventh in total bases and tenth in slugging. Scott Duensing leads the MIAA and ranks second nationally in appearances, while Ryan Paschal and Cale McCallister rank fourth nationally and second in the MIAA in that category. Cole Gayman (5-1) leads the MIAA in wins and ranks 28th nationally.

The Lions come into the game hitting .314 as a team and carry a 5.48 team ERA. The Lions have six of their nine starters hitting .300 or better with two more knocking on the door.
