Lions Finish Edmond Regional Festival With Pair Of Wins

Oklahoma City, Okla. – The Missouri Southern softball program picked up two wins on the final day of the Edmond Regional Festival today beating Chadron State 8-1 and East Central 10-1 in five innings.
 
The Lions (5-6) started the scoring in the first inning with an Ashlynn Williams double down the left field line scoring Yazmin Vargas and Sidnie Hurst before Adrianna Young singled home Williams and Kara Amos. Chadron State (0-10) scored a run in the fourth inning to make it 4-1 after four innings complete. Southern got a run across in the fifth inning before adding three more in the third as Williams singled home Vargas and Kristen Wade doubled down the left field line to score Williams and Jennelle Lundien.
 
In game one the Lions were led by Williams going 4-of-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, Wade and Young finished with two RBIs along with Vargas going 3-of-3 with two runs scored. Avery Tallman pitched seven innings allowing no earned runs and striking out one batter to pick up her second win of the season.
 
East Central (2-6) scored first in the Lions second game scoring once in the top half of the first inning, Southern responded with a run in the bottom half to head into the second inning tied 1-1. The Lions scored two runs in the second inning as Yamin Vargas single through the left side to score Grace Parrott and Adrianna Young. The fourth inning saw Southern explode for seven runs in the fourth inning with Vargas picking up a bunt RBI single to score Parrott before Ashlynn Williams hit a grand slam and Young hit her first home run of her collegiate career.
 
Game two the Lions were led by Vargas going 3-of-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, Williams had four RBIs and Young collected two RBIs from their home runs. Kara Amos pitched all five inning limiting East Central to two hits while throwing three strikeouts and no walks.
 
The Lions will be hosting the Teri Mathis Zenner (TMZ) Memorial Tournament this weekend as long as weather cooperates Southern will play Northern State on Saturday with first pitch happening at approximately at 2:00pm.
