Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern baseball team got a walk-off RBI triple from
Drew Davis to score
Nate Mieszkowski to lift the Lions over Quincy, 8-7 at Warren Turner Field.
The Lions (4-5) got a 3-for-5 day at the plate from
Clay Milas as he drove in a run and scored a run, as well.
Matt Miller went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and a run scored. Mieszkowski went 2-for-5 with three runs scored, while
Henry Kusiak and
Ryan Doran had two hits each.
Logan VanWey started and went five innings, striking out nine and walking just one.
Laif Hultine,
Scott Duensing,
Ryan Paschal and
Cole Gayman threw in relief with Gayman picking up the win to move to 1-1 on the season.
Quincy (0-1) got three hits from Gino D'Alessio, while Lance Logsdon and Dayson Croes had a pair of hits each.
The Lions scored a run in the first on an RBI from Milas, but Quincy scored a run in the second and three in the third to go up 4-1 after three innings.
Southern answered with two in the fourth on a two-run double from Miller and then tied the game in the fifth when
Tommy Stevenson reached on a fielder's choice driving in Kusiak.
The Lions added another run in the sixth to go up 5-4 after a home run from Miller. The Hawks tied it with a run in the top of the 7
th before the Lions answered with a pair in the bottom half to go up 7-5. Traeghan Parker tripled home Mieszkowski before scoring himself on an error.
Quincy added a run in the eighth and another in the ninth to tie the score at 7 heading to the bottom of the ninth. Mieszkowski doubled to open the inning then scored on Davis' game-winning triple.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow morning with a double-header against Truman State. First pitch is set for 9 am.
