Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern football team got a pair of touchdowns on the ground from
Nathan Glades, but the Lions couldn't pull out a homecoming win as Southern fell 42-21 to Fort Hays State inside Fred G. Hughes Stadium.
Southern (1-3, 1-3 MIAA) got 93 yards and two touchdowns from Glades on 13 rushes, including a long of 62 yards.
Keandre Bledsoe caught nine passes for 88 yards. The nine catches are a single-game record for receptions by a tight end.
Dawson Herl went 24-of-31 for 232 yards and a touchdown, while
Brian Boyd Jr. had five catches for 64 yards and a touchdown.
Jaedon Stoshak had seven receptions for 52 yards in the game.
Defensively for the Lions,
Richard Jordan Jr. had 13 tackles, nine solo, including two tackles for a loss of three yards and two forced fumbles.
Solomona Fetuao had three tackles and a sack, while
Nick Kruse had a sack of his own.
Dylan Bolden picked up his fourth interception of the season and the third in the last two weeks.
The Lions had 320 yards total on the afternoon and led the time of possession battle. The Lions had two sacks and an interception.
The Tigers (2-2, 2-2 MIAA) got 17 carries and 198 yards on the ground with two touchdowns from Adrian Soto, while Chance Fuller went 19-of-27 for 207 yards and three scores.
FHSU got on board first with 11:48 left in the first quarter to go up 7-0, but the Lions wasted little time on the ensuing possession as Glades picked up the first of his two touchdowns on the day for a 62-yard score to tie the game at seven.
The Tigers picked up a score as the first quarter ended to lead 14-7 after one. FHSU scored three times in the second quarter to lead 35-7 at the half.
Neither team scored in the third, but the Lions got a score at the beginning of the fourth as Glades rushed in from one-yard out to make the score 35-14 with 13:43 to go in the game.
After another Tigers' score, the Lions tacked on another touchdown, this time from Herl to Boyd for five yards to make the final tally 42-21.
The Lions will be back in action next week as Southern plays host to Pittsburg State for the 2021 Miners Bowl. Kickoff from Fred G. Hughes Stadium is set for 2 pm.
