Zach Parish was named the Central Region Pitcher of the Year, while he and junior outfielder
Jordan Fitzpatrick picked up All-Region honors as the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced their regional awards today.
Parish earns his third Region Pitcher of the Year Award, having already earning the honor from both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers and the D2 Conference Commissioner's Association. Parish was a first-team All-Region pick by the coaches, while Fitzpatrick was a second-team pick.
Parish was named the National Pitcher of the Year by the Baseball Writers last week and this season he became the NCAA Division II all-time leader in strikeouts. In his career, Parish now has 488 strikeouts. Parish tied his MSSU single-season record with 136 this year. Parish also finished the season with the best single-season ERA for a starter in MSSU history (1.21) and the second-best career ERA for a starter (2.16).
This season, Parish leads the MIAA and ranks third nationally in strikeouts. He is second in the MIAA and third nationally in wins, while ranking first in the MIAA and eighth nationally in WHIP. He ranks first in the MIAA and fifth nationally in hits allowed per nine innings, while ranking first in the MIAA and second nationally in ERA. Currently Parish is the active career leader in all of college baseball (d1, d2, d3) in wins, strikeouts, innings pitched and starts. Parish finished the season with an 11-1 record and a 1.21 ERA. HE struck out 136 batters, while walking just 25 and held opposing batters to a .162 batting average.
Fitzpatrick was a spark plug for the Lions at the top of the order. This year, Fitzpatrick leads the MIAA and is sixth nationally in doubles, while ranking third in the MIAA and ranking 26th nationally in hits. He is fourth in the league in home runs with four of his 14 this year coming to lead off the game. He is third in the MIAA in RBIs, while ranking second in slugging and total bases. Fitzpatrick finished the season hitting .369 with 20 doubles, 14 home runs and 48 RBIs this year.
