Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team will play host to No. 13 Washburn as the Lions play a mid-week, non-conference matchup with the Ichabods inside Young Gymnasium tomorrow night at 6 pm.
The Lions (5-9, 4-3 MIAA) split a pair of matches last week, sweeping Central Oklahoma and then falling in five sets to Newman. Against the Bronchos, Southern was led by
Janelle Brehm as the senior had 15 kills and 19 digs in the match.
Sophie Mader had 34 assists and nine digs, while knocking down four kills with an attack average of .444.
CC Pollard had 11 kills, while
Abbie Casper had 12 digs.
Kierson Maydew and
Alyssa Diaz had seven and six blocks, respectively while the team had 11 total blocks.
Against Newman, the Lions were led by
Janelle Brehm who had 27 kills and 26 digs, hitting .327 in the match.
Alyssa Diaz had 15 kills and hit .323 while
CC Pollard had 10 kills.
Sophie Mader dished out 63 assists, while
Abbie Casper and
Brooklynn McCain had 22 and 10 digs, respectively.
Washburn (13-4, 5-3 MIAA) has won eight of its last nine matches, dropping the lone match at Nebraska-Kearney last weekend.
