Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern soccer program fell today at Hal Bodon Field 2-1 in overtime against Rogers State.
Southern (3-4, 0-1 MIAA) pressured the Rogers State (4-1, 1-0 MIAA) defense and goal while keeping most of the possession in the first half but a Hillcats' counterattack goal in the 33
rd minute put them ahead of the Lions 1-0 at the Half.
Maya Greenquist notched her fourth goal of the season in the 50
th minute tying it at 1-1. The second half saw both teams fire off 10 shots and three yellow cards were given out.
The Lions came out in the overtime period and again put pressure on the Hillcats' defense and goal. Rogers State shot whenever the opportunity arose in the period before scoring in the 97
th minute to seal the 2-1 win.
Greenquist led the Lions with three shots (two on goal),
Carina Calderon had three shots as well (one on goal) and
Riley Laver finished with 12 saves her career high.
Laver now has 119 career saves moving into sole possession of eight in school history.
Bailey Belcher moves into sole possession of fourth in career shots with 115.
