Hays, Kan. – The Missouri Southern softball program split it's MIAA double-header against Fort Hays State today inside Tiger Stadium losing game one 2-1 before winning 2-0 in game two.
Southern (15-11, 6-4 MIAA) went toe-to-toe against Fort Hays State (13-13, 7-3 MIAA) in game one as the Tigers took the lead in the second inning before the Lions responded in the fourth.
Leighton Withers singled through the right-side scoring
Josie Tofpi tying it at 1-1 after four innings. Fort Hays State scored the game winning run in the fifth inning and shutout the Lions the rest of the way with the final score being 2-1.
Tofpi finished 2-of-2 scoring a run as Withers picked up the RBI,
Abby Atkin pitched six innings striking out two Tigers and issuing out only one walk.
Game two saw the Lions score in the fourth inning again, this time it was a
Josie Tofpi solo home run her third homer of the season to open the scoring. Tofpi sealed the Lions win in the sixth inning doubling home
Yazmin Vargas as Southern won 2-0 in game two.
Tofpi finished game two going 2-of-3 with 2 RBIs, and
Yazmin Vargas went 2-of-4 scoring a run.
Bailey Lacy picked up her fourth win of the season in her first shutout of the season, third complete game. Lacy finished with three strikeouts and issued out two walks hindering the Tigers of getting into scoring positions in the final two innings.
Next up for the Lions is a home conference double-header against Northeastern State Friday April 9th. First pitch from the Pat Lipira Softball Complex is set for 2 pm and game two will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
