Topeka, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team ended its season today in the second round of the 2021 MIAA Spring Volleyball Tournament, falling in a five-set thriller to Central Oklahoma. Individual set scores were 25-23, 17-25, 20-25, 25-21 and 22-24.
Southern (6-12) took the opening set 25-23, before dropping sets two and three. The Lions then came back to win set four 25-21 to force the fifth and final set. The two teams combined for a thriller of final set, playing 16 extra points before it was decided.
Janelle Brehm had 22 kills and 34 digs in the match, while
Amelia Neels posted 17 kills and a .552 attack average and
Alyssa Diaz had 13 kills of her own.
Abbie Casper had 35 digs, while
Emalee Lowe and
Brooklynn McCain posted 17 and 14 digs, respectively.
Sophie Mader had a double-double with 66 assists and 11 digs. As a team, the Lions finished with 120 digs on the match.
Southern finished the season with a 5-3 conference record and advanced to the MIAA Tournament for the second year in a row.
