Southern Baseball Hosts Northeastern State

Joplin, Mo. – The ninth-ranked Missouri Southern Baseball team will be back at Warren Turner Field this weekend as the Lions play host to Northeastern State for a three-game set.

Start times this weekend will be 1 pm on Saturday for the double-header and 1 pm on Sunday for the single game.

The Lions (22-6, 15-6 MIAA) are in second place in the MIAA standings coming into the series and tied with the RiverHawks (18-9, 15-6 MIAA). Southern has won four in a row after taking the series with Newman last week and the mid-week game against Drury.

Southern leads the MIAA in walks, doubles, hits allowed per nine innings (fewest), home runs, shutouts, strikeout to walk ratio, strikeouts per nine innings and WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched). The Lions rank in the top ten nationally of five different categories including ranking second nationally in doubles and fourth in home runs.

Individually, Jordan Fitzpatrick, Tommy Stevenson and Troy Gagan rank first, third and fifth in the MIAA in doubles, while Fitzpatrick ranks fourth nationally and Stevenson seventh. Will Bausinger and Zach Parish lead the league in games started, while Parish leads the MIAA in strikeouts and ranks second nationally.

Parish leads the league in wins and is third nationally in that category. He is the active career leader for Division II strikeouts, wins and games started. Parish has 438 career strikeouts and is just 36 strikeouts from breaking the Division II career record.

The RiverHawks are led by Blake Freeman who is hitting .372 with four home runs and 20 RBIs. Brayden Rodden leads the team with nine homers and 30 RBIs. Nick Swanson is 7-0 on the season with a 0.85 ERA.

The games will be streamed via The MIAA Network and live stats will be available for each day. Links for both are above in the story links section.
