Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern volleyball team will play host to both Central Oklahoma and Newman this Friday and Saturday inside Young Gymnasium.
The Lions (4-8, 3-2 MIAA) will take on UCO (10-4, 4-0 MIAA) at 6 pm on Friday evening and then will take on Newman (2-11, 0-4 MIAA) at 2 pm on Saturday afternoon.
Southern has faced both teams already this season on the road, falling in three sets at UCO, but defeating Newman in four sets.
The Lions are coming off a week that saw Southern nearly take the match with #24 Central Missouri, falling in a heartbreaker 3-2. The Lions also played two neutral-site matches in Topeka, dropping a match to #11 Nebraska-Kearney 3-0 and defeating Fort Hays State 3-2.
Against Central Missouri, the Lions were led by
CC Pollard who hit .415 over the match with 20 kills and just three errors.
Janelle Brehm had 14 kills and 17 digs, while
Sophie Mader dished out 44 assists and had 12 digs.
Abbie Casper had 28 digs, while
Brooklynn McCain had 11 ov her own.
Alyssa Diaz had 13 kills and two blocks, while
Kierson Maydew had seven blocks on the night.
Pollard led the Lions in the opening match with nine kills, while
Casper had 13 digs and
Mader dished out 24 assists.
Against Fort Hays State,
Brehm led the way with 21 kills and 25 digs, while hitting .258 in the match. Pollard had nine kills, while
Diaz had seven kills. Casper had 35 digs in the match, while
McCain added 14 and
Lowe had 11. Mader had 44 assists, 13 digs and five kills in the match.
