Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern volleyball team will be back at home this weekend as the Lions play host to Emporia State on Friday and No. 3 ranked Washburn on Saturday.
First serve on Friday against the Hornets is set for 6 pm from Young Gymnasium, while the Lions and Ichabods will tangle at 7 pm on Saturday evening. Live stats and live video will be available for each match and can be found by clicking on the story links above.
Southern is led by senior setter
Sophie Mader who has 661 assists on the season, to go along with 190 digs and she is tied for a team-high 19 service aces with
Grace Quiroz and
Brooklynn McCain.
CC Pollard leads the offensive attack with 2.61 kills per set, while
Armyni Perales is averaging 2.28 kills per set.
Kierson Maydew has a team-high 50 blocks, while
Amelia Neels has 36 blocks and Perales has 32. McCain leads the team with 3.66 digs per set, while
Emily-Kate Lonergan is averaging 2.05 per set, as well.
ESU (4-19, 2-14 MIAA) and the Lions met on October 9 with the Hornets taking the match 3-1 in Emporia. ESU is led by Megan Stretton with 2.44 kills per set, while Riley Bernskoetter (7.51 a/s) and Ainslee Stepp (4.81 a/s) direct the offense.
Shelby Ebert has a team-high 27 service aces, while Riley Fornelli leads the team with 5.51 digs per set. Doriann Lebron has a team-high 49 blocks.
Washburn (22-3, 14-2) and the Lions played on October 18 in Topeka with the Ichabods taking the match in four sets.
WU is led by Genna Berg (3.62 k/s) and Allison Maxwell (3.18 k/s) who both average more than three kills per set. Allison Sadler is dishing out 10.60 assists per set, while Faith Rottinghaus leads the team with 6.64 digs per set. Maxwell has 95 blocks on the season to average 1.12 per set.
After these matches, the Lions will finish up the regular season next weekend when Southern hosts Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney.
