Wichita, Kan. – The Missouri Southern soccer program outshot the Jets, but the Lions concluded this weekend's road games with a 1-0 loss at Newman this evening at Wilkins Field.
Missouri Southern (2-8-2, 1-4-0 MIAA) and Newman (1-8-1, 1-4-0 MIAA) played a scoreless first half with the Lions have the advantage in shots 4-2, shots on goal 2-0.
Maya Greenquist had two first half shots while
Tayler Ohu and
Banner Williams had shots on goal for the Lions.
In the second half, the Jets got the game-deciding goal in the 59th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Lions got a Williams shot inside the six-yard box that was saved in the 72nd minute,
Ella Durocher would have shots in the 74thand 75th minute that were saved by the Jets goalie. The Jets would get off two shots in the 77th minute that required saves by goalie
Lilly Doneghue.
Williams and Durocher finished with two shots on goal while Greenquist tied them for the team-lead with two shots as well.
Jori Hays,
Lariah Boone and
Tayler Ohu each had a shot on goal as well and Doneghue finished with three saves in her 90 minutes in goal for the Lions. As a team, the Lions finished with more shots (9-6) and shots on goal (7-4) for the game with the Jets holding a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Individually for the Jets, Makenzie Shay was the goal scorer in her only shot of the game, and Cassandra Moeder finished with a game-high three shots with all being on goal. Jackie Lari was stationed in goal for the Jets and finished with seven saves in the game.
Up next for the Lions will be Nebraska-Kearny as the Lions will be celebrating senior night from Hal Bodon Field, kickoff will be at 6:00 pm on Friday October 15th.
