Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team got a strong outing on the mound from
Zach Parish and the bats were alive as the Lions run-ruled Missouri-St. Louis today 12-1 at Warren Turner Field.
Southern (8-1) got another masterful performance from Parish as the senior lefty went five innings, striking out 14 in the process to move to 3-0 on the season. Parish now needs 22 strikeouts to break the MIAA career record.
River Wright and
Ethan Paschke each had an inning in relief.
Henry Kusiak and
Joe Kinder each had identical lines of two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored, with Kinder having a double.
Tommy Stevenson had two hits, while
Clay Milas and
Matt Miller had a hit each.
Jordan Fitzpatrick,
Cole McBride,
Calem Nutting and
Kaleb Baker scored a run each, while Stevenson scored once and drove in another.
Troy Gagan had a pair of runs scored and an RBI, while McBride and
Dexter Swims drove in a run each.
UMSL (1-1) fell victim to the error as the Tritons had seven errors in the game. Mitchel Becher had a pair of hits.
Southern scored four runs in the first to open the game and broke the game open with seven runs in the fourth. The Lions added a single run in the sixth.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow, when Southern plays host to 27th-ranked St. Cloud State at 1 pm from Warren Turner Field.
