Defense Posts Three Takeaways At Fort Hays State

Hays, Kan. – The Missouri Southern football team picked up three turnovers, but had trouble converting to points as the Lions fell 44-3 on the road at Fort Hays State.
 
The Lions (1-3, 1-3 MIAA) saw Dwayne Lawson catch six passes for 120 yards, his third of the season in four games played. Lawson now has 24 catches for 465 yards and three scores on the season. Jacob Park threw for 173 yards and Sean Kelly added 107 as the team had 29 completions for 280 yards on the night.
 
Defensively, the Lions were led by Tyler Evans with ten tackles, seven solo, including a forced fumble and a pass break up. Richard Jordan Jr. had six tackles, including a sack for a loss of nine yards, while John Ejizu had an interception and a fumble recovery to go with seven tackles. Levi Had a fumble recovery of his own.
 
In total, the Lions' defense had seven tackles for a loss of 18 yards on the night, three takeaways and a quarterback hurry.
 
Riley Hathorn connected on a 30-yard field goal, while Paul Wolff averaged 41.4 yards in punting with a long of 47 yards.
 
The Lions led the time of possession battle and had 280 yards through the air to FHSU's (2-2, 2-2 MIAA) 255.
 
Southern will be back in action next weekend when the Lions play host to Central Missouri on Homecoming. Kickoff from Fred G. Hughes Stadium is slated for 2 pm.
