St. Joseph, Mo. – The Missouri Southern women's soccer team limited the Missouri Western Griffons to one score on the night, but was not enough as the Griffons held on for a 1-0 win inside Craig Field at Spratt Memorial Stadium Friday night.
Defender Brianna Smith, midfielder Carina Calderon, and forward Courtney Marten each had a shot for the Lions (1-4) in the loss. Calderon recorded the lone shot on goal while freshman goalkeeper Riley Laver made ten saves on 28 total shots taken by the Griffons.
The Griffons (2-2-1) scored off a corner kick 12 minutes into the match.
Missouri Southern is back in action on Sunday to take on No. 8 Central Missouri at 1:00 pm.
