Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern women's soccer team scored its first win of the 2019 season, 1-0, after a last second deflection off a member of the Drury Panthers that got past the goalkeeper inside Fred G. Hughes Stadium Friday night.
 
Senior forward Jessica Edwards sent in a cross pass intended for junior Meredith Belrose that ended up going to a running Panther defender who kicked it from two yards out into the goal to give the Lions (1-2-0) the win.
 
Belrose along with teammates Brianna Smith, Courtney Marten, and Ashton Manwill had two shots to lead Missouri Southern. Freshman goalkeeper Riley Laver played in all 90 minutes between the posts while making eight saves on 14 shots faced.
 
DU (0-2-1) committed two offside violations that prevented two goals from counting in the books.
 
The Women's soccer team is back in action on Sunday for a nonconference match against East Central University as part of Youth Day beginning at 1:00 pm.
