Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern women's soccer team defeated the Washburn Ichabods 2-1 after scoring the go-ahead goal in the eighth minute of the second period inside Fred G. Hughes Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Junior midfielder
Carina Calderon intercepted a pass at midfield, pushed it up the field and found senior forward
Jessica Edwards all alone and running up the left sideline for a goal from 15 yards out as the Lions (3-12-1, 2-6-1 MIAA) held on for the victory.
Freshman
Elena Eckwall registered her first goal of the season in the 55th minute to knot the match up at 1-1 as she turned around and let it fly over the goalkeeper's head, off the crossbar, and into the net.
Senior goalkeeper
Luz Galindo made six saves in 90 minutes of action in-between the posts while the Lions offense outshot the Ichabods (7-7-1, 3-5-1 MIAA) 19-15 overall.
Missouri Southern prepares for its final home match of the regular season against nationally ranked Central Missouri on Friday at 6:00 pm as part of Senior Day where the team's three seniors will be recognized prior to kickoff.
