Maryville, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern volleyball team picked up a double-double from
Janelle Brehm but the Lions fell on the road at No. 14 Northwest Missouri, three sets to none tonight. Individual set scores were 19-25, 19-25 and 24-26.
Southern (12-11, 5-8 MIAA) was led by Brehm's 11 kills and 13 digs on the night.
Morgan Nash nearly recorded another triple double with eight kills, 14 assists and 12 digs, while
Brooklynn McCain had a match-high 19 digs.
Makenzie Fa'amausili-Cacoulidis had a double-double of her own with 17 assists and 12 digs, while
Cassie Walton posted ten digs of her own.
Northwest (15-6, 8-5 MIAA) got 11 kills from Hallie Sidney and 10 from Rachel Sturdevant.
The Lions and Bearcats fought back and fourth in set one, but Northwest went on a 5-0 run midway through to lead 18-13 and force a Lions' timeout. The Bearcats held on to win the set.
Set two saw the Lions open up a 7-1 lead, forcing a Northwest Missouri timeout in the process. The Lions led 10-3, but the Bearcats went on a 7-0 run to tie the set at ten and again at 14 to force a Southern timeout. Northwest led again at 21-17 to force another Lions' timeout, and held on to win the second set.
Southern opened up the third set again on a 7-1 run to force another Bearcats' timeout and the Lions led 16-11 midway through the set to force another Northwest timeout. The Lions led 23-19 late, but Northwest went on a 7-1 run to finish off the set and take the match.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow evening as Southern takes on No. 10 ranked Central Missouri at 7 pm from Warrensburg.
