Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team led 6-2 after two innings and 7-3 after four, but the Pittsburg State Gorillas came-from-behind and defeated the Lions 11-8 tonight at Warren Turner Field in Joplin.

The Lions (22-14, 10-12 MIAA) got a big day at the plate from Cory Canterbury as he went 2-for-5 with four RBIs and a run scored. Denver Coffee had three hits, while Johnny Balsamo and Alex Phillips had two hits each. Balsamo scored twice, while Phillips had an RBI and two runs scored. Richard Fullerton had a home run, while Dan Lenz scored a run and Mike Million and Alec Alvarez had an RBI each.

Corey Cowan started and went three and a third, allowing two earned. Joey Reeves threw two and a third, allowing five runs to move to 2-2 on the season. Cam Bednar and Brennon Covington threw in relief.

Pitt State (24-13, 16-9 MIAA) gor three hits each from Reece Garvie and Joven Afenir. Andy Pagnozzi threw five and two thirds in relief to get the win, moving to 2-1 on the year.

Pitt got on the board first with a homer in the top of the first. The Lions answered back with three in the bottom of the inning on a two-RBI double from Canterbury and a sacrifice fly from Alvarez.

After the Gorillas had got one more run back in the second, the Lions scored three in their half of the inning on another two-RBI double from Canterbury and an RBI single from Million.

Both teams scored a run in the fourth, the Lions getting its run on an RBI double from Phillips. But PSU scored seven unanswered runs to eventually lead 10-7 and go on to get the win. Fullerton's home run in the eighth would be his first of the year.
