Joplin, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team won its tenth-straight as the Lions took out visiting Northeastern State 9-6 today at Warren Turner Field.
The Lions (13-2, 2-0 MIAA) got a win on the mound from
Will Bausinger as he moved to 3-0 on the season with four and two thirds of an inning, striking out four.
Jared Flores threw three and a third of scoreless relief and
River Wright threw the ninth.
Joe Kinder,
Alec Alvarez and
Cory Canterbury had two hits each, while Canterbury and
Easton Fortuna drove in two and Alvarez and
Johnny Balsamo drove in a runner each. Balsamo,
Mike Million and Alvarez scored twice, with
Alex Phillips, Canterbury and Fortuna scored a run each.
NSU (8-7, 1-4 MIAA) had three with two hits each, led by Jaxon Phipps with three RBIs and two runs scored.
The Lions got three in the top of the first on RBIs from Balsamo, Fortuna and Canterbury. Balsamo started it with a home run to lead off the game.
NSU got a run in the first and each team scored another run in the third. The Lions got a run after an RBI single from Canterbury.
Southern scored two more in the fifth on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from Alvarez and then three more in the seventh on RBIs from Fortuna and Kinder.
NSU added two more in the ninth, but not enough to complete the comeback.
The two teams play the series finale tomorrow at noon.
