Southern Falls in Double-Header to No. 25 Texas A&M Commerce Sunday

Commerce, Texas - The Missouri Southern softball team came up short in both games as No. 25 Texas A&M Commerce took game one 11-3, and followed with a 10-7 win in game two to wrap up the day inside the John Cain Family Softball Complex Sunday afternoon.

Game 1
The Lions fell behind early 2-0 until a three-run outburst put Southern on top by one after two singles and a RBI-walk.

A&M Commerce responded with nine unanswered runs, including two homeruns of three on the day from catcher Mariah Jameyson for eight RBIs all together.

Second baseman Lexi Ferrari went 1-for-3 with a RBI-single and made it all the way home during the fourth inning. Catcher Sydney Gardner also provided a 1-for-3 stand from the plate with an RBI as well.

Game 2
MSSU began the scoring with three runs in the second after a RBI-single by Sydney Gardner and two sacrifice hits to cap off the inning. A&M Commerce responded in the bottom of the third with three runs of their own to knot the game at 3-3.

Then back-to-back doubles by Shelby Friend and Erkia Lutgen put the Lions ahead two and led to two more runs as they came out of their half of the fifth with a four-run advantage.

Commerce answered with two in its half of the inning and ultimately five in the bottom half of the sixth to take a three-run lead into the seventh and secure the victory.

Gardner led the Lions with three hits on the day out of four opportunities at the plate, while bringing in two runs home. Lutgen and Abi Corbett combined for a 4-for-8 line and three runs scored.
