Joplin, Mo. -- A goal in the 77th minute lifted the Wiliam Jewell Cardinals over the Missouri Southern soccer team, 1-0 in non-conference action. 

The Lions (0-2) had a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal, but WJC (1-0) out shot the Lions 12-10 overall. 

Sarah Tatum led the Lions with three shots, while Taylor Beck had a game-high two shots on goal. Mikayla Hutchison had two shots, as well. Daritsa Herrara stopped two shots in goal for the Lions in her first start of the season. 

William Jewell got a late goal from Lexy Hawkins off of an assist from Alyson Galler. 

The Lions will be back in action on September 8 when they travel to Ouachita Baptist for a 3 pm kickoff.
