Lions Drop Final Two Games in Southeast Regional Invitational

Durant, Okla. - The Missouri Southern Lions dropped the final two games of the Southeastern Oklahoma Regional Invitational 5-3 to Oklahoma Christian and 2-1 to East Central Sunday afternoon at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex.

Oklahoma Christian
The Eagle of Oklahoma Christian struck first on the top half of the opening frame on a RBI double down the left field line. Southern answered back in the bottom of the third with bases loaded and two outs, junior Myranda Stewart drew a RBI walk. Junior Shelby Friend took a pitch off the forearm for a second run and sophomore Angel Badalamenti drew another walk to make it 3-1 Lions. OC tied the game in the top of the fourth on a two run home run and took the lead in the sixth on two RBI singles, one to left and one to center. 

Freshman Mikaela Cox got the start and went four innings allowing three runs, all earned, on four hits with a strike out. Senior Sydney Koch suffered the loss pitching three innings in relief and allowing two runs, both earned, on three hits with a strike out.

East Central
Southern scored first in the top half of the first when Stewart laced a RBI double down the left field line that scored junior Abi Corbett. Sophomore Taurean Guzman shut down an ECU Tiger team that scored 14 runs in the opening game of the day & held them to two runs on nine hits with four strikeouts in six and a third innings of work. Cox pitched one third of an inning allowing the game winning single to left center in the bottom of the seventh with two outs.

On The Weekend
Corbett led the offensive attack for the Lions hitting .571 (12-for-21) on the weekend with nine runs, a double, and a triple. Corbett was 3-for-4 in the stolen base column as well. Friend went 6-for-14 (.429 average) with a grand slam and seven RBIs. Stewart added six RBIs for Southern while Badalamenti and freshman Erika Lutgen each added four.
