Canyon, Texas - The Missouri Southern Softball team lost their first three games at the WT Invitational at Buffalo Sports Park on the campus of West Texas A&M University on Friday.
In the first game of the day against Cameron, senior
Sarah Morrison led the offensive attack going 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of runs scored. Juniors
Abi Corbett and
Shelby Friend each went 2-for-3 at the dish and Corbett scored a run. Junior
Myranda Stewart stroked a double that scored Corbett and Morrison in the fifth, Corbett had an RBI single to right that scored sophomore
Taurean Guzman in the third, and Friend laced a two RBI triple to right that scored Stewart and Morrison in the same inning.
In the second game of the day against Chadron State, the Lions fell behind 5-0 headed into the bottom of the fourth before Stewart and Friend had back-to-back RBI singles to left. Southern cut the Chadron State lead down to one in the sixth with three runs off an RBI single to left from sophomore
Ashley Caldarella, an error by the Eagles' catcher, and a RBI bases loaded walk from Morrison. CSC scored two runs in the top of the seventh to make it 8-5 before Friend scored on an infield fly rule and sophomore

Bailey Skelton, scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-7.
In the final game of the day against RMAC's Fort Lewis College, Southern came out with the early 4-0 lead with a pair of unearned runs in the second and a pair of runs scored of a double from
Erika Lutgen and a sacrifice fly from Caldarella in the third. Fort Lewis scored five in the bottom of the third and tacked on one more in the fourth and two in the fifth for the 8-4 win.
Three Lions hit over .500 for the day with Corbett going 7-for-11 for .636. Morrison hit .600 (6-for-10) and Friend finished 6-for-11 (.545) on the day. Stewart and Lutgen had the only two doubles for Southern on the day, Lutgen the triple, and senior
Sydney Koch added a solo home run in the fifth inning against Cameron in the opener of the day.
Southern will close out the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs Invitational with Fort Hays State tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. and the fourth ranked host WTAMU at 4 p.m.
