Joplin, Mo. -- Enis Memic scored 18 points and added 11 rebounds all off the bench and the Missouri Southern men's basketball team utilized an 11-1 run to end the first half en route to a 74-58 win at home over Missouri-St. Louis.
The Lions (1-2) had four players score in double-figures, led by Memic's 18 and 11 effort. Memic went 7-12 from the field and also hit 4-6 from the free throw line.
CJ Carr scored 16 and added seven boards and six assists.
Kinzer Lambert had 16 points and
Koray Gilbert scored 11.
UMSL (2-2) had four score in double-figures, led by 17 points from Elijah Watson.
The Tritons' largest lead of the first half was seven (26-19) after a layup from Eric Dust with 4:34 to go in the half. The Lions, however, responded with an 11-1 run to end the half and went into the locker room with a 30-27 lead at the break.
UMSL got to within three (43-40) after a dunk from Will Presson, but the Lions went on a 9-0 run to go up 52-40, capped off by a layup from Memic with 11:39 to go in the second half. A layup from the Tritons' Dust got UMSL to within seven, but a quick 7-0 run from the Lions pushed the lead to 14 and Southern would not look back.
The lead was as high as 17 after a three from Lambert with 53 seconds left to go.
The Lions shot 52 percent from the field, 67 percent in the second half, and 86 percent from the free throw line. Southern out rebounded UMSL 41-30 and the Lions' bench out scored the Tritons 22-13.
Southern will be back in action next Saturday and Sunday when the Lions travel to Sioux Falls, SD to take part in the Sanford Classic. The Lions will play Northern State on Saturday and Wayne State on Sunday.
