Football Falls 56-7 At Pittsburg State In Season Finale

Pittsburg, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern football team finished off the 2017 season today as the Lions fell 56-7 at Pittsburg State in the Miners Bowl. 

The Lions were led offensively by TJ Fleeton as he rushed for 76 yards and went 2-8 in the air with a long pass of 41 yards, 61 total, with one touchdown. Dante Vandeven caught three passes for 57 yards and a touchdown, while Devontai Pounds had a big catch for 56 yards. Josh Hadley had 13 carries for 37 yards, while Dalton James rushed seven times for 37 yards. 

Defensively Roc Robbins led the attack with 12 tackles, including one behind the line of scrimmage. EJ McKenzie had 11 stops and 3.5 behind the line, while Akel Beard and Keith Beverly had eight and seven tackles, respectively. 

Michael Rose led the PSU attack with 134 yards and two scores on the ground, while Thomas LePage went 10-of-17 for 163 yards and two scores. 

The Lions' lone touchdown came near the end of the third quarter and started with a 30-yard return by Deuzae Johnson. On third and 13, Fleeton hooked up with Vandeven for a 41-yard gain to the Pitt State 26-yard line. Hadley had a rush of six yards, before Fleeton hit Vandeven for the 20-yard score with 1:32 left in the third. 

Southern had 121 yards on the ground and 158 through the air. 

The game marked the final contest for 11 seniors on the MSSU roster.
