Wichita, Kan. -Â The Missouri Southern Women's Soccer team battled Newman University to a 0-0 double overtime draw Saturday afternoon at Wilkins Field.
Newman out shot the Lions 14-9 and 5-4 in shots on goal. Freshman
Brianna Smith led the way for the Lions with four shots, two on goal, while junior
Elizabeth Saavedra added two shots, one on goal, and freshman
Ashton Denham added the final shot on goal. Freshman

Brooke Ishmael also tallied a shot each.
Southern's best opportunity to break the tie came in the first half in the 42nd minute when Smith's shot from the left wing was saved by a Jets' defender. As time expired in regulation the shot from Ishmael from inside the box sailed high sending the game into extra time. The Lions did not record a shot in either of the extra frames while Newman's best opportunity came in the second OT when Madison Decker's shot clanked off the right post.
Freshman
Luz Galindo played the full 110 minutes recording five saves and her first shut out in the Green & Gold.
The Lions will be back in action on Friday as they open their home schedule against Ouachita Baptist. Kick off at Hal Bodon Field is slated for 3 p.m.
